Thanks for the heads-up, Bob.

FYI it sounds like the Linux kernel guys are discussing dropping support for DECnet. I don t know how many other HECnet people use Linux (I know I do!), but if you re interested you might want to join the linux-decnet-user list

I know I've seen patches to simh on the net to get the bridge
functionality inside simh.
I did some more searching and found this one
http://gunkies.org/wiki/Networking_with_SIMH#HECnet
it appears that this (very short!) patch allows simh to talk directly to the
bridge in Uppsala without needing a bridge on this end at all. It seems too
good to be true, but I guess I'll give it a try.

Does anybody know if it s possible to use Johnny s bridge program to

That depends on the machine. It requires that you receive the packets that you send out. On some machines, they do, and on some they don't.
That said, I know I've seen patches to simh on the net to get the bridge functionality inside simh. Could that be an option?

There's a patch which adds this functionality for OpenBSD and Linux.
It's possible to add it for FreeBSD/NetBSD too, but I don't have working system to test it.

Looks like I was wrong, it is a squid issue. I've plugged the internet

Thanks Mark - it works now from where I am.

OK, the cache is configured to pass through (I won't know if it's caching correctly till I turn SLAVE off).
It's also worth noting that if http://hecnet.eu doesn't work http://hecnet.eu:8080 is always a direct connection to SLAVE.
Regards, Mark.

Is there a problem with the hecnet.eu website?
I am getting connection timed out when I try to browse it.
Traceroute from my location goes off into the weeds somewhere in
demon.net. No response to pings either but lots of things don't
respond to pings any more at the best of times.
IIRC HECnet.eu is run off Mark Wickens's AlphaServer
(SLAVE::) and is not always online.

Looks like it's more complicated than that - I can't see any of the configured NAT ports from the outside world, and the router is configured correctly, so I guess I have an issue with my ISP. Wouldn't be the first time mind...
