Linux dropping support for DECnet

As others have mentioned, the Panda distribution uses KLH10 not simh. It's supposed to come with a precompiled klh10 executable for Linux and Intel. It also comes with a pre-installed, ready to boot, system image that you can use after some minimal configuration, and there's README file that describes how to boot and configure it. I've got to admit that it's been a while since I tried it, but I don't remember any problems. What's the issue you're having? As for Linux DECnet, I'm afraid this has absolutely no connection. The Linux DECnet package allows a Linux machine to speak DECnet natively (well, more or less) so a Linux machine can participate as a node in a DECnet network. This is independent of any simulations or simulated operating systems. If you have a lot of DEC machines, it's very handy to be able access your Linux machines with FAL/NFT, SET HOST, NCP/NML, etc. Bob

With SIMH your best bet is TOPS-10. The Panda (MRC's updated TOPS-20) distribution requires KLH10 and I believe includes a slightly newer version than is otherwise available. I've never messed with the Panda distro, but have done my own installs. I've never had DECnet running on TOPS-20, but did have it working on TOPS-10 7.04 thanks to a kit I got somewhere. I really liked the LAT support, since it allowed me to connect with a VT420. SIMH doesn't support Networking, but KLH10 does. My emulated TOPS-20 system was running TCP/IP, but I haven't had it online in years. I've started working on some updates, but to the best of my recollection no one has sent updates on the PDP-10 stuff. Setting up KLH10 is a pretty basic compile, IIRC. The instructions with KLH10 should be enough to accomplish that. You might want to get on the alt.sys.pdp10 newsgroup, as that's a good place to ask questions. Basically don't expect the "community" to do something for you, if you want something, take the time to research the available resources, and then ask questions in the appropriate places if you're stuck. Care to explain what the DECnet community is, how they in any way are related to the setup of TOPS-20 on top of Linux (by which I actually assume we're talking of some PDP-10 emulator, upon which you then install the PANDA TOPS-20 distribution). As for instructions on how to install the PANDA TOPS-20 dist on some kind of PDP-10 emulator, running on whatever, I'd suspect MRC would be the most logical person to ask. As for how to install/setup some PDP-10 emulator, I guess it depends on the emulator. As for how to get DECnet running under TOPS-20, that have just about no bearing on Linux whatsoever.
