Two options:
One: I put the cd in osmium and you copy what you need.
Two; I make an image on a pc, you copy that image and burn it

Does anyone have a copy of the VMS Alpha hobbyist kit that I could get electronically? I have ordered and paid for a physical copy a couple of weeks ago, and I have my Paypal receipt to prove it, but I haven't heard anything back about it being shipped.

Yes let me check whether it is on-line

Subject: [HECnet] Ultrix downloads from SLAVE...
Hi guys,
Is anyone attempting to download the Ultrix ISOs from SLAVE?
If so, I'll save you a lot of time and pain by burning a CDROM and
posting it.
Regards, Mark.
I do!
I am almost finished and there was no pain at all :-)
Thank you!
OK, no problems, thanks for the response.
It does raise a question at this end however.
I have a remote use who logs in via telnet.
Whilst I can happily limit the bandwidth that SLAVE uses overall at my router to stop the upstream connection saturating and causing therefore the downstream connection to grind to a halt, this also causes the connection to slow for my remote user.
Can anyone suggest any techniques that I might use to prioritise telnet connections over HTTP connections? Is this something that solely comes down to the responsibility of a competent router, or does VMS provide any facilities?
I suppose one way would be to configure a proxy and route http traffic via the proxy, or alternatively could I install two network cards in the ALPHA and serve the internet through one connection and telnet through the other (which would allow me to apply different upload/download restrictions based on IP address at the router. Could this same principle be applied to the HECnet connection?
On a similar subject (sorry if this is becoming boring now!) I asked on comp.os.vms about flakey DE500 network cards. Am I right in thinking that DE602s are the way to go to stabilise the connection between two local cluster nodes?
It would be nice to reach some kind of sensible balance, where everyone is happy!
Regards, Mark.

Try this:
$ define AXPBINMAR03 -
DUSTY::AXPBINMAR031,DUSTY::AXPBINMAR032,DUSTY::AXPBINMAR033, -
DUSTY::AXPBINMAR034,DUSTY::AXPBINMAR035,DUSTY::AXPBINMAR036, -
DUSTY::AXPBINMAR037,DUSTY::AXPBINMAR038,DUSTY::AXPBINMAR039
$ directory/noheader/notrailer AXPBINMAR03:[000000]*.DIR
I will leave the DOC's as an exercise to the reader/user :-)

I have the CDs online now.
You can find them in these paths on DUSTY::
AXPBINMAR031:
AXPBINMAR032:
AXPBINMAR033:
AXPBINMAR034:
AXPBINMAR035:
AXPBINMAR036:
AXPBINMAR037:
AXPBINMAR038:
AXPBINMAR039:
Note that there is a [CDROM] directory that has CDMENU.EXE
that you can run on Alpha systems to see what's on the
different discs.
There are also:
AXPDOCMAR031:
AXPDOCMAR032:
AXPDOCMAR033:
which contain the documentation. These are Bookreader files
and should be usable on VAX or Alpha with the appropriate setup.

I just checked, DUSTY:: is up and running! It is directly connected to
my network over a Multinet Tunnel.
Use:
$ dir dusty::axpbinmar031:[000000]*.dir to see what is in the first
virtual volume then go from there...

Sure. But a discreet http site which is not published will go under the radar.
Just my 2 cents

As long as we keep the links to ourselves I doubt HP will even notice.

I agree! Put the contents online (somehow) for us to
view and use
when possible.
Okay, I'll do that then. I've copied the CDs to .iso
files and now
need to get my Linux system to get a bit more room to
hold them and
then once that's reconfigured, I'll mount them on DUSTY::
(and send
out a message when that's done to let everyone know where it is).
I will happily rip and host the CD images for HECnet
member use - I
run a data center, so I have plenty of bandwidth to spare.
I'll even
pay for shipping if required.
Thanks very much for the offer, Ian, but I've got a very decent
Internet connection here (all hail, Verizon FiOS :-) ), so once I
resize my Linux disk to hold these files, I'll be set.

Hello!
Marc for those of us who as yet do not have access via the
networking
methods that you've worked out with the rest of the group, can you
set up access for normal methods? IE, via FTP or even HTTP?

Marc,
We need to be careful about putting VMS kits in the public space.
It's one thing to make them available for HECnet users
within HECnet
but another to put them accessible to the whole world. HP might
(probably will), take a very dim view of this. Let's not temp fate
and give them ammunition to shutdown the program.
