Gentlemen,
I've rolled up a bit of Linux DECNET C code and some bash scripts to do a PHONE DIR on all the nodes on HECNET (well at least the ones FIDOGW is aware of, I periodically update it's node database from MIM).
The results are then copied to the Apache server running on RHESUS, where you can now get a nice quick glance as to who is logged in on HECnet, all in one place:
http://rhesus.sampsa.com/hecnetdir.html
Comments and feedback are welcome, if you wish your node(s) to be excluded from the scan, let me know.
Sampsa
No problems, I thought I had broken something on my end - been messing with the config no end.

Guys,
That was obviously not meant for the whole list, sorry about that...

Bob,
I've been messing with my MULTINET setup, so have seemed to have lost my link from GORVAX to you.
Any chance you can reboot it to see if the link comes back up?

Hi Guys,
http://hecnet.eu is up and running - not much up there, but there is more to come!
Johnny - can I duplicate your information on this site?
It's running on an OpenVMS box connected to hecnet, the site is generated using the utility asctohtm to encourage you guys to make a contribution. Asctohtm runs on the VAX and can process very simply formatted ASCII into a nice looking webpage - perfect for adding content by using a VAX/PDP box and then copying it via hecnet onto the target. I'd also like to get a script running to determine the active state of the network, and in the long run a bit of client site charting to produce a network diagram.
In the first instance I'd like email suggestions of content please (or you can email me actual content). The idea in the long run is to create a batch job that will scan the decnet default directory and pickup contributions to put on the wall by automatically converting the ascii files into HTML.
I'd also like to create an online tutorial/faq to walk people through the basic decnet/bridge setup as well as point out any common issues.
Lots of ideas in the pipeline - we did talk about issuing @hecnet.eu email address which would automatically get piped through a SMTP gateway - which would also be very nice.
It'd also be nice to get some bios & backgrounds on people using hecnet - sometimes even though it's a big network it can feel a bit lonely!

Unfortunately two things happened, one is that I lost the powersupply in that box, and I still haven't had time to either swap powersupplies, or XP1000's. The other is that since my XP1000 and VAX are powered off I've come to realize just how much running them 24x7 was costing. :-( I had a pretty good idea what it was costing me in electricity, and as a result had already been thinking of powering it down, but as it turns out it was even more than I realized.
The CGI in question requires Perl. I have some data on the box in question that I need in the next month, so I need to get it back up and running. I'll see about recovering the script as well.

NETCONFIG pretty much solves all problems...
The ethernet interface on a VAXstation 4000 model 60 is recognized by DECnet
as ESA0, so you'll see a LINE and a CIRCUIT called ESA-0.
The VAXstation 4000 model 90 uses different hardware and the device is known
as ISA-0 to DECnet.
You can manually create the corresponding LINE and CIRCUIT components with
NCP but running NETCONFIG is a lot faster, if not easier ;-)

OK,
So in time honoured tradition I solved the problem pretty much by asking
the question.
I did a NETCONFIG and a reboot and all is fine again.
