Well I did suggest Beirut, that place rocks...

Maybe the UK/US idea is the way to go.
And I did suggest Switzerland. Nice and neutral. :-)
As well as being very central so it's not too far for anyone.
(Said half in joke, since I do realize the costs of actually staying here for a couple of days isn't cheap.)

Yeah, those guys will just have to send in manual updates.
Or write a script to give us the details :)

I'm not at all clear what the problem is, though. I can, from MIM, tell which areas are online. And for each area, you can check which nodes are online in that area. After that, it just becomes a question of figuring out how the bits are connected.
The problem is the CISCO gear doesnt talk NCP, so we can't do stuff like SHOW KNOW CIRC (to get routers to walk) or SHOW ADJ NODES (to get end nodes).
If the CISCO guys want on the map, it'll have to be manual for now....

Thanks for spotting that.
The DECNET.TXT file obviously had incorrect (very old) information for area 42.
Fixing now.

What are the IPs for those? I'll connect a random node on another
friend's server while i'm at it (extranet.wilcox-tech.com is the host
for it. It's static)
That doesn't need it's own area though, can I piggyback off someone
else's? ;)

Subject: [HECnet] Getting a virtual cluster connected
Hello everyone!
I've decided to bring up the random virtual cluster I was running on
a
friend's server, and I want to get it connected to HECnet. ;)
The IP is static so connecting it should be easier, the server is in
North Carolina. It's looking like i'll need to go install multinet
on
one of the cluster members as that'll be easier than bringing up a
linux
VM to run Johnny''s bridge. ;)
What areas are available? I'll go renumber to one of the free
areas...once I either remember or reset the SYSTEM password.
Thanks.

What about area 9, which is already allocated to you?
The area router for 9 is here at my house though, and the IP here isn't static, so it'd be a bit challenging to get that to work.
So? I don't see the problem. Have both places use the same area. Have an area router at each place (you need that anyway). Have a link between your two places. Done.
How would the link between the two places be done? I can do it via VPN for the Florida site and here, but i'd need to deal with dynamic IPs at the other site Actually no I wouldn't.
If you have a place with a dynamic IP, you already are dealing with this. How do you do it today?
We never quite got that working, so I think i'll just use option 2. I get a bit more control with that method anyway.
The link there is a bit less reliable, but the VPN auto reconnects.
Sounds like a working plan that is better in all ways then.
Yup.
I can route my house -> florida, and the NC site -> florida as well. And then from Florida -> HECnet.
Yes. That would also work.
I'll go do that then.
Add TSTBD6 (9.15) to the area list, then.
Done.
Thanks!
Johnny
Johnny
However, if I claim area 14, I could setup a multinet tunnel between that site and the SIMH instances running on another friend's stuff.
Thoughts?
Yeah. While we're not out of areas, I think it's time to atleast use them somewhat more efficiently than this. A new area for each place you set up is a bit much, me thinks.

I can't say I'm too fond of Finland, but I wouldn't complain too much either. You know, the water runs in the tap, and is clean. You are relatively safe on the streets, even after dark. Public infrastructure generally works.
There are lots of places where you can't say the same.
I suggest two meets: One in the US somewhere convenient, and a Europe/EMEA one somewhere nice and cheap like Malta or Cyprus.
Time and money... Both might be an issue, at least for me... Going somewhere else than I live is probably not possible in my case.

I vote for somewhere in the US with plenty of space and the UK (around
the time of DECevent)... This year I may have the time (and money) to
attend the DECevent...
