Oh! I guess I read through everything you wrote too fast! :-) I hope they get it right, and I also hope that when they get it working it will work with things such as FreeNAS, as that could lower my electricity bill.

But when I tried to launch the initiator on CHIMPY, it crashed, hard. Took out the box and rebooted.
Then again, I suppose this is what field tests are for :)

BLEEP!!!! Alpha support for iSCSI was supposed to be in V8.4. I would say this is what happen when you dump most of VMS engineering and outsouce the work.

Gerry,
If they are less than responsive, I'm happy to share the goodies, just drop me a line. :)

Looking for that name with Google yields a link to a page of the HP DSPP
program about the 8.4 field test, in which they offer the opportunity to
become a field test site for the new OpenVMS version.
Sampsa, did you go through an formal request to HP or had some informal
contact with that John Egolf? I'm wondering if they will accept a poor
hobbyist as an official test site... :)

I registered through the formal channel but as I'm not a proper DSPP partner / client, John gave me access as a hobbyist.

DEC/Compaq did, no idea on HP. Of course back when I had lots of disposable income I bought a machine, Doc Set, and an OS kit from Compaq as well.

There was a field test sign up page on hp.com, no idea of the URL anymore though.

I might have to fire up the IA64 now - it's bloody freezing in here!

Well my poking around ended as follows:
$ @SYS$STARTUP:ISCSI$INITIATOR_STARTUP.COM
**** OpenVMS Alpha Operating System E8.4 - BUGCHECK ****
** Bugcheck code = 000003C4: SSRVEXCEPT, Unexpected system service exception
** Crash CPU: 00000000 Primary CPU: 00000000 Node Name: CHIMP
** Highest CPU number: 00000003
** Active CPUs: 00000000.00000003
** Current Process: SYSTEM
** Current PSB ID: 00000001
** Image N?
So I'm guessing ISCSI on AXP is a work in progress... :)

Hmm, might have to have a quick poke around.

Any idea how well iSCSI works? Will it work with something like FreeNAS?
