My Amazon Kindle DX just arrived and it's rather good for reading PDFs, so was going to put the whole VMS 8.3 and 7.3 docsets on it. Any idea where I can grab all of them in one place, or do I have to download them one by one from the HP site?

Very intriguing. It would make support rather easy. ssh in, drop script in pre-defined directory, tell user to run it.

Subject: [HECnet] "du" for OpenVMS?
What's the sanest way to get an idea of disk usage by directory on VMS?

$ DIRECTORY /SIZE=ALL /GRAND [directory...]
It takes a while to collect the information, but once its done, you'll be presented with the total number of files and the total blocks (actually used and also allocated).

OK, not getting much further, just configured a single (FreeNAS) iSCSI target in:
SYS$COMMON:[SYSMGR]ISCSI$ISN_SERVERS.DAT
Then ran the startup, to no avail:
{RHESUS$} @sys$startup:ISCSI$INITIATOR_STARTUP
%ISCSI-E-LOAD, Error loading iSCSI execlet (status = c)
Oh well, I guess it's not to be.

Oh! I guess I read through everything you wrote too fast! :-) I hope they get it right, and I also hope that when they get it working it will work with things such as FreeNAS, as that could lower my electricity bill.

Like I said, that isn't true, I misread the documentation, actually I was reading the wrong document :)
But when I tried to launch the initiator on CHIMPY, it crashed, hard. Took out the box and rebooted.
Then again, I suppose this is what field tests are for :)

Alas, CHIMP is an Alpha, and the iSCSI kit is only supported on I64. I will potentially try to do an upgrade on RHESUS this weekend - I'll let you guys know how I got along..
BLEEP!!!! Alpha support for iSCSI was supposed to be in V8.4. I would say this is what happen when you dump most of VMS engineering and outsouce the work.

Looking for that name with Google yields a link to a page of the HP DSPP
program about the 8.4 field test, in which they offer the opportunity to
become a field test site for the new OpenVMS version.
Sampsa, did you go through an formal request to HP or had some informal
contact with that John Egolf? I'm wondering if they will accept a poor
hobbyist as an official test site... :)
The address I've found with Google is http://tinyurl.com/fieldtest84

do you know when they'll close the evaluation period?
BTW, do you have both the Alpha and Itanium kits?
Bye,

P.S.: did you receive my two-days-ago mail right about this topic?
