Quick idea re: HLP/INFO.TXT files:
If you format your INFO.TXT file like a HLP file, it'll automagically be processed and look like a proper VMS help file - however due to the fact that the info.txt puller adds a
2 <NODENAME>
section heading, all your sections should be 3 or deeper.
So for example, CHIMPY's INFO.TXT could (and will) look like this:
---- SNIP ----
Welcome to CHIMPY::, part of the SAMPSACOM network.
3 Active users
Currently active users for email include:
SAMPSA
DAVIDSON
3 Guest logons
We offer the following guest logons:

Sampsa, I don't mind getting it once a week, send it to zonnet.nl.
But my blackberry keeps me awake at night these days owing to the volume on Hecnet!!

OK - I'll turn that off, I just thought it would be nice to remind people there's a new HLP file available, no spamming intended.

PS: The HLP file is compiled at 5 AM Sundays EET (3 AM GMT) :)

Anyone who DOES want a reminder, email me off-list, I'll add you to a distribution list :)

Sampsa, I don't think it's a good idea to send results of automated scripts to the mailing list. This idea of this list is for people to get help with HECnet, talk around hecnet, and things that might be related. Output from automated jobs don't at all fit into this.
Either we can create another list for that kind of stuff, or mail it directly to those who might be interested.
I second this, as it seems the output emails are a bit frequent. ;)
I think I'd object even if it was infrequent. The idea of the list is
for human to human interaction.
Johnny
I'm guessing you want LEGATO in there?
Yes, please. I thought you were just trolling for any INFO.TXT files in
the public DECnet directory. They're supposed to be public information -
that was the whole idea.
Sorry - I only read about 1 message in ten on this list. The S/N is kind
of low.

As you're around, can you add two nodes for me:

K90VX2 47.801
Thanks,
Coming up. Then I'm going to bed. :-)

Thanks, I just woke up. Funny sleep cycle, but the weather outside sucks and my contract is on hiatus so who cares.
4.38 in the morning. I'm (as usual) up way too late...

Yeah, RHESUS does the DECNET stuff - I actually screen scrape the results of http://rhesus.sampsa.com/cgi-bin/hecnetinfo/hecnetinfo.com
So there are DECNET operations, but the results are delivered over HTTP :)
Yikes! Well, that works, I guess. :-)
I'm sure we could throw something native together in no time, and make it totally internal to rhesus... :-)
Johnny
Well Python does run on RHESUS so I could do a bunch of stuff that way.
But this works, so until it stops working, I'll leave it :)
Fair enough.
BTW, do you want to write something for the top section of the HLP file?
Currently I just copy pasted the website stuff.

Ok. But how do you pull the INFO.TXT files from other machines here?
I can see that you can pull files out using ftp, and then process them on your Unix machine, and put the result back, but there are some DECnet operations in here...
