The 90M I have must have flash in it of some sort, as it boots if MISER is down, although it takes about 2 days ... ;) I have a line on a 700 with flash so I'm hoping I can "upgrade".
You shouldn't have a problem hooking that 520 up to your 90M, because I'm typing this to you on my VT525 connected to the 90M, connected via LAT to MISER and ssh'ed into my main Linux machine. (whew!). This way I don't have to fire any of my workstations up in the morning before I get underway for the day just to check the mail (simplicity, eleganace and all that). I also have a VT220 I'd like to hook up in the living room someday ... :) I figure 50 feet at 9600 would work just fine.
Your issue (like mine was) may be cables - either you'll have to use a RJ45 to MMJ cable wired appropriately, or get some of those RJ45->mmj things that plug into the terminal server. I have a wiring guide for DECServers if you need it and can place it on a HECNet accessible drive - just let me know.
I have an abomination of a connector/cable hooking the 90M to MISER's console, some DB25-9pin job connected to a null modem adapter connected to a db25-mmj with then some silver satin running to the decserver ... I'd like to clean that up as MISER is in possession of my only null modem adapter!! :)
Cheers,
Fred

Lets call it for what it is - "legacy" is a term that people use in a
polite but derogatory manner to imply that the future direction they
prefer is not that which they view as the current direction.

I don't know if the DECserver 200 allows you to hook up system consoles.
I know that my 90L+ does not. :-( One problem I see is that you have to
boot the DECserver 200 via MOP if I remember correctly before you can
use it.
Yes, you can use a DS200 for consoles. I used to have one doing just
that for quite a few systems.
You can mop boot it from link you know ... search for "mopd"
That should have bee Linux, not link, sorry.

The hecnet.eu domain is currently being transferred. When that's
complete I'd like to get the mail11 gateway configured and then I'll
start on a website. When we're all generally happy with the website, it
would be nice if it was hosted elsewhere, however, I'm keen to keep it
on a box connected to hecnet if that's possible - living the dream and
all that, and it will mean that we can provide information about the
network status directly and possibly develop some other cool
applications.
Regards, Mark.

Guilty, PONDUS is usually the machine that reacts most quickly to
DECserver boot requests...
And yes, you can define a service to do that. I'm already doing it for a
few console ports.

Oh it already boots - no idea where from though :)
As for the system console, can't I just define the port as a LAT service (say CPYCON) and the set host/lat to it?

Maybe I should post a photo of what I have to do in order to connect a cable to MONK. :-) The weight means I have to have something under it to support it.
Though this morning it was that stupid VT420 that I'm currently using that was giving me fits. There is something not quite right about that particular terminal, and one of these days I'm going to have to dig up a better system console.
