Might be. I have to say, I quite like Tru64, for an "old" Unix it is quite usable.
Anyone know where I can get a set of GNU userland tools for it (I'd rather get a binary distro than fiddling with compiling and potentially spewing files all over my system) - the crappy shell is starting to get to me, I'm too used to bash.

Yes, I've got it here - I'll put the packages on tiger in the anonymous

Just a side note: I discovered that with a bit of jiggling and poking the PAKGEN I have that does VMS PAKs works for Tru64 too.
Just in case anyone has lost their PAK..

Apologies,
It is decnet+, the version I use is 4.0B on 4.0G - I didn't have any
problems configuring it up for use with HECnet however.
I can check for a more recent version if you don't have one.

The reason for asking this is the phase V kit where each version matches one
specific version of Tru64.
If it runs on one of these: V5.0, V5.1A or V5.1B then I'm very much
interested in it.
Hans
I have tried this version for V4.0G, however I have the SPL for 5.1 so
there should be a version on that for V5.1+ (well, you would have
thought so, unless they only started shipping DNV from that point

You're quite right Kari about the Multia. I bought one with 40 MB memory and
VMS would boot but crash all by itself within 20 minutes on an otherwise
idle system. The memory was replaced with 256 MB memory and the Multia was
more useful afterwards. The heat problem remains though and adding all that
memory didn't exactly reduce the inside temperature. So it's a winter-only
system. :)

Runs on Windows though :(

Have you ever run an Alpha with only 128MB of RAM? That is the absolute
bare minimum I'd run 7.2 in, and it wasn't fun. I really wish they'd allow
between 192MB and 256MB, as at that point it starts being usable. Of
course
I'd also like a Linux version. :-)
Zane
.
I have. Even with 64MB. ;-)
It was a DEC3000-300X back in 1993 with AXPVMS V1.5 and also with OSF/1
V2.x and 3.0.
I have also tested a Multia with 64MB and VMS V7.3. It worked, but was
really slow. I wasn't expecting much more than bootability. The Multia
is slow (EV4/166MHz or EV4/233MHz) and 64MB is the absolute minimum for
AXPVMS.
