"ps2pdf" was suggested -- it works. So the answer is that some of them can be converted with Distiller (which seems to be the best answer when it works) and the rest with ps2pdf. See below for the details.

Thanks for the suggestion. The answer is yes, that works fine.
Adobe Distiller handled these:
entity_model_v1.0.0.pdf
ethernet-registry-internal.pdf
event_v1.0.0_cover.pdf
lan_node_external_v2.0.2.pdf
lan_node_v2.0.2.pdf
mop-registry-internal.pdf
mop_v4.0.0.pdf
ncl_v1.0.0.pdf
netman_v5.0.0.pdf
time_v1.0.0.pdf
trn_dlspec_v100.pdf
I just tried uid_v1.0.0.ps with ps2pdf and that produces good output. I then tried the remaining ones, and from a quick look I'd say they are all good.

Can you send me the filename of one that doesn't convert properly?

BTW, I spoke too soon when I said they convert fine to PDF. About half do. The other half produce blank pages. The reason appears to be that Distiller can't cope with LaTeX output that uses bitmap fonts, which a number of those specs use.

A kind former colleague sent me a copy of the Phase V Routing spec. The cover listed the order number for that document (which looked nothing like what I remembered). Google found a few hits for that string.
One of the hits is an FTP server: ftp://avaloni.iks-jena.de/mitarb/lutz/standards/DEC/ -- which appears to have the whole set, in PostScript form. Adobe Acrobat Distiller readily converts those to PDF.

V11.1 supports GRE, Decnet IV Level 1 and 2 so I am hoping so. :-)
Brian can get you hooked up with his automatic meshed-tunnel config

Things have been very busy, but I will try to get this dealt with this

coincide with everyone needing to change the IP they allow SNMP to come
from.
Mark, as soon as I've moved everything I'll let you know what you need

Hmmm... Didn't know much about DECbrouter until I looked it up
following these emails. If I have it right
(http://manx.classiccmp.org/collections/mds-
199909/cd2/network/decbrom
a.pdf) all DECbrouters have only one Ethernet interface and a one or
more (depending on model) WAN connections using synchronous serial
lines. I am wondering how this could be used on HECnet. I don't think
anyone offers any synchronous serial way into HECnet, or am I wrong?
That leaves the one Ethernet interface. To be able to use that would
need the bridge (or my user mode router, or some other hardware
router) to be on the same LAN. But at that point there wouldn't be a
lot of point having the DECbrouter as it would not have anything to
route.
Have I missed something? Is the DECbrouter 90 (Cisco) a different beast?
Regards
Rob
I should be able to set up the DECbrouter 90 as a one armed router behind
my main internet Router which is a Cisco 1800. All I need it for is to
encapsulate DECnet and then forward it to a peer via my internet connected
router. It won't be the highest performance but it will get the Area up, I
can
then change it at a later date if required.
BTW, my Cisco 1800 does not support DECnet or GRE so this is not an
option.
Does anyone have any peering info or the config used either on a Cisco or
DECbrouter.
Thanks, Mark
Ah, I think I get it now I didn't realise it could do this. So it might be
another way for me to get onto HECnet using some real hardware, it might be
fun to try that. I have a DEChub to put one of these into.
Do all DECbrouter models do this? Or might I need a firmware update?
I think I want a DECbrouter to play with now.

Hi Rob,
Yeah, the DECbrouters can do it. Cisco say that you need 11.0 as a base to do GRE/IP, but 10.3 works fine. I do have a router with 9.17 loaded, but that is not currently with me. I doubt that it has support for GRE/IP though. You can pick up the IOS images I have here:
ftp://ftp.endlesssoftware.com.au/pub/misc/ios
or via HTTP:

Regards, Tim.

I mourn the death of the question mark.
Here's an example from my configuration. We'll need to wait for Brian
to get you worked into the database though.
interface Tunnel54
description HECnet tunnel for Peter Lothberg Reston VA (Area 59)
[Version:195]
no ip address
decnet cost 20
tunnel source BVI1
tunnel destination 199.0.131.2
tunnel path-mtu-discovery

Thanks Dave ?
