Being a total noob, how do I run a "proper SYSGEN"?
http://9track.net/pdp11/rsx4_sysgen
At the same site you can find the the NETGEN procedure:
http://9track.net/pdp11/decnet4_netgen
Have fun! :)
And if you really want to have fun, the proper manuals can be found at bitsavers. The one you want is http://bitsavers.trailing-edge.com/pdf/dec/pdp11/rsx11/RSX11Mplus_V4.x/2a/A…
(That one is for M+, the 11M SYSGEN is very different...)

I have just downloaded the stuff. One of the first ones I tried was ERR and...
run err
ERR>17
19:28:09 Task "TT1 " terminated
Memory protect violation
R0=007556
R1=177746
R2=000000
R3=000000
R4=003422
R5=003542
SP=001236
PC=004766
PS=170004
I guess I'm doing something wrong (or perhaps the task have to be built again to work in my system... RSX11M46+).
I'd rather say "I guess some documentation, as well as some better error handling" would be nice.
I think (without checking) that ERR requires LB:[1,2]RSXERR.MSG to work, and the code barfs in a very unhelpful way when it don't find it.

BTW, re: RSW - does anyone have a nice, ready-to-run RSX image that a noob like me could play with?
Ideally with DECNET installed?
That should be RSX, not RSW...
I can't help you directly, but I could point at
ftp://ftp.trailing-edge.com/pub/rsx_dists/ for an RSX image atleast. I
don't know what is installed on it.

set /uic=[200,200]
@sysgen
I might have the wrong UIC though. Let me know if that doesn't work.

Talking of VAX software, don't forget the CD and TK50 image archive that I've been working at on my site.

Not personally, no.
Want an account with privs so you can dump new stuff there as and when it's updated?
God no. I don't think I have the time to sync things to other/more places right now.
OK, understood.
Currently it has the FREEWARE CDs, an AXP SPL and assorted VAX stuff.
I just added the RSX stuff as I thought it might be useful in case MIM is down or something.
Well, my goal is a little narrower. I intend to try and make everything useful for RSX available on MIM (and ftp.update.uu.se), however, I have not really gotten things in an organized form so far. But I felt that I should probably try to promote it now, since I think some might find useful bits in there, and not wait until I have everything in total order.
Well if I see you post updates, I'll mirror them onto RHESUS into the the [.MEDIALIB.RSX-11.MIM] directory.
Also, guys, if you have ANYTHING that could be useful to HECnet members, let me know and I'll put it up on RHESUS.
We're lacking a lot of VAX software right now, I think, we only have:
