And since I actually have a DNS name for you, it turned out all I had to do was to send a HUP signal...

I'll get to it tonight, when I plan on going over my mailbox for things that I should respond to...

Actually, you should send that to majordomo at update, and it should be "unsubscribe hecnet". :-)

There is that (dot-circle) button which is called halt. It should be in the position where the dot is outside the circle.
I have just checked my 3300. The two position switch is in the "dot out of circle" position. The three position switch is in the "arrow" (middle) position.
If the uVAX asks for the console language at each boot and/or asks always for date/time, then the NVRAM/TOY backup battery is dead and has to be replaced. You can use standard rechargeable batteries and it is relatively easy to do (I managed to do it myself, and I'm quite clumsy with hardware :)).

OK, will have a play with all this on Sunday.
I still think (from reading the KA640 manuals) that some magical switch is not in the right posiition or something..

If it is like a 3300 (and I think it is) there are TWO
switches to set up properly to get an autoboot. I'll check my
3300's when I get home this evening and I'll post the
positions I have got.
Also, take into consideration the uVAX won't boot if the
NVRAM battery is dead... (It will try to netboot IIRC).
Oh, one last thing, you should set the default boot device:
SET BOOT Dxxx
And if it is clustered:
SET BFLAG x0000000 (being "x" the root suffix)
