Believe me, electricity is not a concern. Nor is bandwidth.
My only worry is heat, which is why the VAX 8650 is not running. (Or the VAX 7720.) Cooling system broke down. :-(

I use a VS4000 Model 30 (VLC). It does not use much electricity so I
don't worry about it.

That is 14 areas, and I'm talking to one more guy who wants a new area, which would bring us to 15.
Anyone object to me giving him area 13? It was asked to be reserved for DECserver management, but I don't really see the point of having an area for that purpose. But if you can convince me... :-)
Also, SG1:: is quite a hub from the bridge point of view. Lots of connections coming through there. Nice. :-)
What type of machine is it?

Steve, are you using "end node" in another meaning than the DECnet one? Because Peter have a whole area, and not just an endnode machine...

Peter,
Add an additional connection to Multinet for SG1. Use 69.21.253.230. I
would set your costs (because you are an "end node") as follows:
GORVAX = 3 Shortest distance and high speed
SG1 = 5 Medium distance and medium speed
LEGATO> 5 Longest distance and slower speed
According to Sampsa, his bridge link is having issues (I have no access
to that), and he is out of country, so connecting to SG1 is probably a
great idea for now and won't hurt anything. SG1 like LEGATO is a
dedicated Multinet router. All it does is that one function.

What is your IP address? I can add links to GORVAX and SG1 at any
time. If your IP address is dynamic, then SG1 will deal with that
automatically whereas GORVAX is a manual change.

It;s static.

Sampsa, I disabled you a few days ago when your connection (well, the adjacency to MIM= was going up and down every few minutes for about two days. I really dislike having so big logs with just CHIMPY up and down messages... :-)
Are you more stable now?

NIKKEL runs, the bridge too so area 44 is on line, though rather unpopulated.
One new node: 44.44 name RENIUM which is a Personal Alpha simulator.

I think that would be great, even if only for a short time. We are
working on bringing up one more area that hopefully will be up shortly.
I may even bring up all three clusters plus my PDP-11's to celebrate.
Now if I only had a replacement SCSI board for my VAXstation 3100 Model
10 I could bring up ULTRIX on DECVAX:: just like DEC! Hey I don't call
this declab.net for nothing :-)
I would like to bring up my Alphaserver 2100 and see if I can get OSF1
or Tru-64 or whatever it is called this week to talk DECnet. However, I
am also waiting on spare parts.

Peter Coghlan,

See my site for more data. The Alpha Server 1200 and its white box variant are the worst in my collection.

My annual power bill runs from December until November. So last year is just
closed and billed. In 2010 I kept system powered off when not in use but
plugged into the mains. That year we used 7200 kWhr. In 2011 unused systems
were also unplugged. We used 5100 kWhr. At .25 cents per kWhr that's a huge
difference.
I have found that systems such as the Alphaserver 1000A use a lot of power
when they are plugged in but not switched on. I went to swap out a power supply
from such a machine and found it very warm, almost hot (the PSU fan does not
run when they are "off").
I imagine this also applies to the Alphaserver 800, ES40 and other systems that
support the RMC facility for remote power management. In fact anything with
a silly little front panel on/off switch should probably be plugged out when
not in use.
Regards,
Peter Coghlan.
