The sources for DECNET-8 can be found. And you need to run RTS-8 for it.
And it can only talk DDCMP, so you need a serial line connection.
The manuals for the whole thing can also be found online. But there is
very little beyond the basic framework. You were expected to write your
own tasks that the communicated over DECnet under RTS-8.
RTS-8 is a very embedded type of system. It's not something you can log
in to, and use as a generic system.

I've looked slightly at DECNET-8, as have Paul. It would be very tricky,
as it seems like it's some kind of variant on Phase I, if I remember
correctly.

nope. absolutely horrible operating system, don't want to spend time
there. lots of other fun stuff to play with.
