FWIW, unlike the -11, floating point hardware was standard on all the 36 bit machines.
So there's no reason not to use it. Even the KA had floating point, albeit in a
somewhat different format.
Yeah. And I suspect that might have been a bit of the reasoning.
However, performance wise I would still expect it to be much worse, and
for no really good reason in this case.
But I guess it's not in any critical path anyway. :-)
