I did the same thing with a cast-off IBM X3350 series system. Worked
fine, but the box sucked so much power, that it now spends most of its
time powered down.? For it's time, it was plenty fast and a great
platform to run Tops-20 on.

I have used RAID with Centos but I used an IBM ServeRaid controller
that was supported by Centos so the effort required no work on my part
other than assembling the necessary parts and updating the controller
firmware.
