That's correct - the CON ONLINE ALL hangs on the generated system. The

Maybe a misconfiguration of some sort...?
Well, what? Like you said, the M+ SYSGEN is pretty simple and almost all
the questions, even w/o autoconfigure, take the default answers. Either
that, or there's something that's not supported by 4.3 (even though it says
that it is).
Looking at your other post, I'm looking suspiciously at your terminal lines...
You can't take the default on *all* questions, since some don't have ny defaults. The CSR and vector for the terminal lines, for example... :-)
Actually I'd easily believe that it was a misconfiguration except for the
fact that ACF also hangs. That says to me that there's something about this
configuration that either isn't supported or doesn't actually work with M+
v4.3.
ACF is a totally different story. ACF can hang for any number of reasons. You really need to make sure your hardware is correctly configured before you can expect ACF to work. ACF is probing all over the bus, and determines what type of device it is by what it has already detected. There is no easy way to detect the type of a device on a Unibus or Qbus. Thus, if you do not follow the rules in the manuals on what address to assign to devices in the floating address space, ACF will not work right for you, and might in fact think that your device is something completely different, and tries to program it accordingly.
CON ONLINE on the other hand uses the actual information you have provided, and just tries to talk to the expected device that you specified, at the expected address, which you also specified. If that fails, it would normally be because the device is not what you said.
Or there's a bug in simh - that'd be ugly...
Yes. But I am hesitant to blame simh at this point.

Saw it. Have not had any time to ponder why... But it sounds weird. Doubly so that CON ONLINE (if I remember right) also hang. That would suggest a device not responding correctly. But this was in simh, so it's not really a case of broken hardware. Maybe a misconfiguration of some sort...? (Well, actually, probably...)

Ok, I'll look at setting it up again this afternoon. Maybe I can get you
to help me set up an RSX system in exchange.

Dan-
Do you really mean "bridge" as in Johnny's bridge program??
You used to have a Multinet link for area 51. I've updated your IP on
this end, but the link isn't starting. I'd guess that either your end isn't
configured correctly or it's not turned on. Do you know what's going on?

Like I remember :-)
All I can say is that the SMTP to MAIL-11 gateway is built into Multinet
and you have to be running the Multinet SMTP server as a prerequisite. ISTR
that I used the decnet.org domain for this, so inbound addresses were of the
form "user at node.decnet.org" where "node" was the HECnet node name. Outbound
MAIL-11 addresses look like LEGATO::SMTP%"user at somewhere.com".
It wasn't that hard to get it working - the biggest problem I remember was
getting the address rewriting rules correct so that mail was symmetrical
(i.e. somebody on the Internet could reply to a message that originated on
HECnet without needing to fix the reply-to address).
I'd set it up again if there was an application for it, but it was never
really used before. I let it run a year or two and then quit maintaining it
when I upgraded Multinet.
I used it a few times and enjoyed it. I know a couple of people who used it a bit more...
If it was a rather small effort to get up and keep up, I would be happy to see it return. But I don't expect anyone to put lots of work or money into it.

Hi,
I know i've been on and off hecnet over the last few years. But I have
finally moved into a place big enough to have multiple machines
running and today I got broadband installed with a fixed ip. Can you
update my ip address to be 78.86.112.81.
Thanks
Dan
