When I worked at Wright-Patterson AFB in the early 90's we had a bank of dual Exabyte 8200 devices. As I recall we had some teething problems but eventually they worked pretty well. I left in April '94 so it must have been late '92 or early '93 when we started using them.

Now that I've gotten RT-11 rolling on the 11/23...is there any way to get DECnet rolling on it? I can't find a tape image anywhere. :(
If I'm going to get stuff copied to this...it's going to help to have higher than 9600baud going for me. ;)
I suppose I could install the TCP/IP stuff but I've never actually done that. Would TSX+ run on an 11/23?
Once my cleaning tapes arrive I'm going to install RSTS/E from one of my DDS-3 tapes via SCSI drive. ;) (Here's hoping the bootstrap on the SCSI controller does TMSCP bootstrap!)

I ahd better luck running it on a BSD than linux...Linux networking stack has issues in some situations.

it's a good point - I just looked and it's not that different from water. But, I've seen fuel systems that ran on pure methanol corroded pretty quickly if they weren't cleaned out after a run. I guess the corrosion is enhanced in methanol by effects on the surface layer of metals like aluminum and magnesium, that depend on a surface layer to halt corrosion.

Careful with methanol - it's a more potent solvent in general than ethanol
or isopropanol. Lots of rubber and plastic compounds are attacked by
methanol.
Additionally, the H in the OH group isn't held onto as tightly as in the
other organic OH compounds, so methanol is corrosive to metal.
It's also a middlin' good oxidizer for some metals.

I never remember if it is an 8200 or an 8500. Either way, it's been working fine for the last 20 years or so... :-)
