I was just pointing out that for a lot of normal use
the whole Google Apps + fetchmail combo is rather good (and free).
Sorry, I should have been more grateful. I appreciate the suggestion, but
I like running my own SMTP server although the SPAMmers have made it less
fun than it used to be.
Bob
Sure, if you do need/want to run your own incoming SMTP server I'm sure it's good, I was just pointing out that for a lot of normal use the whole Google Apps + fetchmail combo is rather good (and free).

I use PMAS from Process Software (the same guys who make Multinet). They

weeding out the SPAM, but it has become something of a CPU hog in recent
releases.
Thanks,

One thing I have found useful in stopping spam is using Google Apps as my front-line mail exchanger.
I just point my MX records at Google Mail, set up a catch all account and pick the mail up with fetchmail - port 25 traffic is outbound only.
Added bonus is that if my server is down no incoming mail is lost.

I've transferred all the Multinet connections from LEGATO (2.1) to CODA

LEGATO is being retired - even though it's a fairly fast VAX as VAXes go,
it's just not fast enough to keep with all the SPAM that I receive every
day. CODA is an AlphaServer, a DS20E, and a couple thousand SPAMs barely
even budge the CPU utilization numbers :-)
This shouldn't cause any problems for anybody - the general HECnet
connectivity is unaffected by this change, but I thought I'd mention it just
in case someone notices.

Christine,
What's the DECNET address for the tunnel and/or the old IP address so I
can identify it. Also, I have managed to forget the system password for
GORVAX so will need to do a conversational boot to get into it - need to
bring GORVAX and it's host down anyway for some patches to the host OS,
will prob do this tomorrow.
I can't remember the old IP address sorry. The new one is 86.10.38.192. The old one might have been an 82.something if that helps!

Did GORVAX used to have a connection to me? I think it might have done
but it probably got lost when my IP address changed.
Could you check please, Sampsa ?
My IP address is 86.10.38.192 and multinet is now up and running again!

Nice to see some activity, and that connectivity is going up again. :-)
Yes, the 90A is a very nice machine. Especially if it has lots of memory.

On the plus side, the new place has a 47U rack and twice the bandwidth - so I'll be able to bring the AlphaServer 4100 that I have lying around online.
Sampsa
PS: I have just acquired a VAXstation 90A - are these any good?

PDXVAX - down (I guess Zane still hasn't been able to unpack it).
PETEY - down (Is Dan back from Oz?)
DUSTY - up (good!)
SELENE - down
STUPI - down (Peter, where are you???)
ZARQON - down (Chrissie said it's too hot to run it)
MISER - down
GORVAX - up
Looks like we can still talk to the Johnny Bridge world via GORVAX, but
only areas 1 and 11 appear to be up.
