I full agree with that sentiment, I can use Emacs to a basic degree (I don't progam in elisp or anything) and it is a very effective editor. Shame it doesn't come as standard on all *nix boxes, I have to revert to vi (UNIX) or nano/pico (most Linux distros) Emacs builds on most everything, and is packaged for most (all?)
