When I had a similar issue, I ended up assigning one CPU to each VM with
the host taking care of distributing the load of the 5 VMs across
available CPUs.
Of course it may be a completely different issue here.

Care and care... I keep checking the status and health of HECnet all
the time, but I usually do not usually ping people because nodes are
down. HECnet is in a somewhat stable state at the moment. Around 19
areas normally online, and about 10 nodes in area 1. I don't keep any
closer track of how it looks inside other areas.
