There is now an OpenVMS/x86 system on HECnet, as I would expect/hope, DECnet Phase IV
seems to be working just fine. It’s routing through my VAX/VMS 5.5-2 system.

Aldur3 (27.6) has been on HECnet since E9.2. It has run both bare metal and virtualized.
It is currently a virtual guest of ESXi running on a DL380 G9.

It’s on my VMware cluster (ESXI 6.7). The system itself is an HP ProDesk 600 G1, with an
Intel Core i5-4590 CPU, and 16GB RAM. I’d have preferred to land the system on my DL380,
but it’s a G7, and lacked some of the required CPU features. The hard parts were ensuring
the VM had the correct HW configuration, and figuring out how to add a serial line, as
vSphere wouldn’t let me do that. I finally had to log into the ESXI host that it’s
running on to add the serial line.

I enrolled in CLP a few years ago but I am still waiting for x86 community license to try.
I got Alpha license paks annually.
When I get license paks, I will upgrade it into VM native host on my SBC board. Does it
support AMD processors? If not, I will set up VM on Windows 11 or Ubuntu on my
Intel-based PC.

No AMD yet. They say it's coming in a later release, but no details.

you Zane! I was hoping to have the first x86 on HECnet. :D I just got mine running
yesterday. But I guess Mr. Berryman beat us both.
Mine is running on an Intel NUC9 i9 with 64GB memory running VMWare ESXi V7.0u3. The
OpenVMS guest is a 2-CPU 12GB VM with a 24GB main disk and a 16GB secondary. OpenVMS used
up 15GB of disk leaving 10GB free.
The NUC has plenty of resources so at some point I want to set up a 2-3 node VMSCluster on
it.
I sure would like to give that a try. Maybe
someone will anonymously send me some info, which of course I would keep very quiet.

a box cobbled together from bits. I'll be moving it to somewhere less ad hoc shortly
and I'll probably try a SCSI-based cluster of two though I'm not sure how qemu
does shared discs.

I've got a Dl360 gen8 I'd love to run this on but it only seems to support
gen9 and gen10. It requires a system with UEFI and gen8's have a BIOS. I
wonder if you could get around that with something like DUET...

I didn’t realise this until I saw a posting on r/OpenVMS and realised that OpenVMS E9.2-1
for x86 is now available to Hobbyists.
It’s available via the vms software service portal
https://sp.vmssoftware.com/
if you’ve ever requested licensing from vms software before, you have an account on their
service portal.
If you (like me) have no idea what your password is, just request it to be reset.
Login and go to the “packages” tab. Enter “X86” into the data search field and it pops
up.
X86E9210E.ZIP is the OS download. x86community-20240401.zip is the community licensing,
valid until April 2024.
There are a bunch of layered products available as well.

Did you ever request hobbyist licensing from VSI for Alpha or Integrity?
If so, you have an account with them and can just "reset" the password.
Otherwise I would proceed to apply for hobbyist licensing and see how that goes.
I suspect that won't create an account that's enabled for service portal access
download right away, however,

I realise the X86 license is currently greyed out, but just apply for an Alpha license.
They will have to manually process this and once this has been done you can
go back to the service portal and try again.
