I myself have multiple KS10 systems here, and would
love to be able to
plug DEUNAs into their Unibus chassis at some point and have it actually
work.
I probably say this every time this comes up: I've heard the point made
that the DEUNA draws too much power to live in a KS10's BA11K along with
the usual mess of stuff. I haven't checked the math but it certainly
wouldn't hurt to make it a DELUA instead, for that reason alone.
At one point I got a minimal start on writing a DELUA driver for ITS, but
it's on my ITS RM80 that may or may not still work.

Is the KS10 BA11-K different from a "regular" BA11-K? I have a 11/730
with a BA11-K expansion box that has a DEUNA, a UDA50 (and that's a serious
power hog!) along with a number of other peripherals and there's no problem.
It's true that the UDA50 and the DEUNA need to be in different DD11-DK
backplanes so that they'll be on different +5V regulators, but that's not
serious limitation.

P.S. Cory - I'd love to see a DECnet compatible TOPS10 that runs on simh,
and the DEUNA seems like the only practical way to accomplish that. The
DUP/DMR emulation is interesting, but not that useful since you need yet
another 11/780 simulation for it to talk to!

It's POSSIBLE the 7.05 patchset MIGHT support it? I am unsure. Could
always be patched in.

Not entirely true. My user mode router will talk to the DUP/DMR emulation.

Well, with the KDP and DMC the distributed OS and DECnet can readily be configured to
properly talk across the network. Any use of the DEUNA, as Tim says, will need
significant additional work certainly in the DECnet stack, and also potentially in the
DEUNA driver. Since this midnight project is not near the top of Tim's list anyone
else is welcome to attempt it, but it will be a significant project.

Given that it?s DDCMP, it should work with any DDCMP device you can connect it to.
Connecting SIMH to a sync serial port may be difficult (hard to find those) but async
DDCMP is essentially the same and should work. That means RSX or various routers or even
(in theory, depending on digging up some undocumented details) RSTS/E V10.

reach via IPv4 or IPv6. Transport can be TCP or UDP.
Simh simulators using the KDP and DUP run with simulated host based DDCMP implementations
and the DMC/DMR has imbedded DDCMP implementation. Rob Jarratt has done some testing
running these into his host based DECnet router.
Any of these 'should' be able to connect to a simh system which speaks Async DDCMP
over a serial line (DZ or VH) as well.
