Did you mean node number 156 (in a particular area)? Area numbers can't go
higher than 63.

someone does have 51 assigned to them, at one point.

I have sent you the HECnet area list.
If someone is on HECnet, or just logged into Mim (telnet to
Mim.Update.UU.SE, and login with guest/guest), you can check areas and
nodenames at:
MIM::US:[DECNET]DECNET.TXT (areas)
MIM::US:[DECNET]NODENAMES.ALL (nodenames)
And as others mentioned, areas only go from 1 to 63, while node numbers
within one area go from 1 to 1023.
And there is no special algorithm for assigning area numbers. If you
think you want one, and it's free, just let me know.
