FWIW, Firefox has a setting under "Privacy & Security" called "HTTPS Only Mode". I quote - "... If HTTPS-Only Mode is enabled, then Firefox will upgrade all connections to HTTPS ..." So try setting that to "Don't enable HTTPS Only Mode".
