Nah, this is fine - I just want a rough idea of how many blocks are being written to the
disk per second so I have some idea when say a big LD CREATE batch job will finish.

mind that DCL is interpreted, so if you spend too much effort in making things
look pretty, you may wind up skewing things far from the 1 second periodicity.
