Maybe you can fix the opaque issue with super fine sandpaper like a 5k or
10k grit like you use to clean up dull headlights. I have used it a long
time back to fix optical sensors and lately cheap solar panels for garden
lights.

replacement since any old production ones are just as likely to be bad.
