IP have the ARP protocol to be able to map from IP address to MAC address. With DECnet, you can deduct the MAC address, given the DECnet address. But in case you actually want to, you can also see the DECnet address given a MAC address. And there is a reverse ARP in case you want this in the IP world as well.
