Paul,
That is part of my thinking as well. When I decided to form a LLC a couple years ago I
had the firm run a trademark search for RSX11M. They did not turn up anything related to
DEC, Compaq, Mentec, HP or anyone else. Apparently they have let things lapse to the point
it doesn’t show up in the trademark databases. They did find Honda’s RSX related to cars
and a few other odds and ends but gave me a green light to use it. This of course does not
provide any license or anything else except a thin shield to liability to personal
property.
I had found a few years earlier that
RSX11M.com was available and picked it up as well.
Someday I hope to convert the crude static html web site to a wiki more like what
gunkies.org but I just have too many things going on to invest the time now. Also it may
be best to just keep a low profile.
Best,
Mark

Yes, Dave bought it all from the remains of Mentec Inc. The purpose was to try and make
it all available for hobbyists.
However, the contract between DEC and Mentec is poison, and that contract is still
active, with it today being HPE and XX2247. And Dave was definitely worried about his
house and everything with regards to that contract, which is why it stayed locked down.
I think this is a situation where creating an Inc. or LLC, perhaps a non-profit one, is a
legal tool to put some bozo shields between your private property and the bad lawyers.
