so most likely that was a 2400 baud link.
Got my first "personal" VAX, a VAXstation-2000, around 1990 and I had a
dial up, 2400bps asynchronous DECnet DDCMP link to the machines at work.
Even managed to run DECwindows over that, although it took a lot of
patience.
