I was never an operator on Tops-10, but did do systems programming as
Galaxy will run on either Tops-10 or Tops-20. Other programmers and
operators were available to do that kind of stuff.? I did boot a KI in
Marlboro in 1979, but now can't remember anything about it.? My answers
are to point you in the right direction.? Be aware that I could be
completely wrong; I'm a Tops-20 nurd.

KLH-10 TOPS-10 noob questions:
1) At the TOPS-10 boot startup option prompt, I can type in CHANGE and
then set the DECnet address. How do I make it persist across reboots
and not have to do this every time?
Like Tops-20, Tops-10 does not have a separate
data store for DECnet
configuration persistence.? One of the first things that starts up is
OPSER, which then launches a bunch of other things (like Galaxy).? It
reads through a command file to do this.? Look in either 1,2 or 1,4 for it.
2) At the monitor dot prompt, I can login as 1,2 and R OPR and then
ENTER NCP etc. What exactly does the SET EXECUTOR NODE xx.yyy do?
A faster way to do this is by using INITIA.? Just do an I 1,2<ALTMODE>
and you're on.
Set executor just sets where commands go so you don't have to type TELL
3) What is the proper way to shut a KLH-10 PDP-10
running TOPS-10
system down?
Look for a program named 'KSYS'.? I think OPSER can also do a
shut down.
Thanks in advance

The Tops-10 documentation is not that bad at all; some of it is quite
readable.? I know you hate doing this, but...
