Yes, that's SIMH running *on* VMS.
Binaries are here, currently only for VAX, still working on alpha,
feel free to download:
ebola::disk$user:[decnet.simh.vax]
Note that there's no network support. Network support works on Alpha,
but not VAX. Not sure why.
I just shut down an instance of RSTS/E v10.1 under SIMH on my VAX
7700. I'm currently booting VMS 7.3. =)
There's just something surreal about simulating a VAX on a VAX.
Yep. How many layers deep do you wanna go? ;)
Just a few beyond absurdly deep.
I think this is already absurdly deep. ;) I'm running this on one of
the fastest VAXen ever built, designed to support HUNDREDS of
simultaneous interactive users, and it's...well, running this particular
thing very, very slowly. ;) (still booting..)
Now, try it on your -11/750. ;)
No! Nor the 11/730 either! And DEFINITELY not the MicroVAX-I!
Probably best actually, I think everyone here would die before the simulator booted on
those. ;)
Well ok, I take that back. I might actually try to boot OS/8 under
the PDP-8 emulator on one of those platforms. That'd probably be ok.
Probably. Try the Altair emulator and see how quickly you can overflow by doing
multiplication. ;)
I want to build simh on my Alpha now. ;)
Also, while you're here: update your tunnel to connect to whatever gewt.ath.cx
resolves to please. I haven't learned enough about IOS scripting to automate a way
to periodically see if my IP changed. If I figure out if statements and how to handle exit
status of ping, I can do that part easy.
