Yes, I knew about Zero being legal and I think I had already remarked
about that in some previous thread.
Did you ever have one of those days where you just can't seem to find
the perfect word? I didn't mean "interesting" as in 'wrong', but
rather
interesting as in something that caught my eye. Why? Beats me. I mean,
I didn't want to just write "Golly!", so that was as close as I had
patience to get. "Of note" didn't work, either...
I think you're probably correct about the Tops-10 DAP implementation.
It needs further productization and testing. It is possible with simple
commands from the Tops-20 NFT client to so completely hang Tops-10 FAL
that the service can't be restarted in any obvious fashion. You have to
reboot. That's probably not the last word on the thing, but it is about
as far as Bob and I got looking at it. I didn't want to troubleshoot by
hanging VENTI::...
On the other hand, Tops-10 FAL is whaaay cool for supporting other
transports besides DECnet, the Tops-10 only networking protocol (whose
name slips my mind).
I have the sources somewhere on VENTI2:: so I don't need to have VENTI::
up to look at them, but that's a rabbit hole I'm not going anywhere near
for the moment.

I don't know what that "DECnet" field is. As for buffer size of zero,
that's legal, the DAP spec says it means "unlimited".

suspect it just wasn't developed and tested much in the latter days, compared to
TOPS-20.
