Well, more than a full week has passed without any word from HP: I wrote to
them on Thursday, January 21st. Are you still willing to help us with a copy
of OpenVMS E8.4? :-) BTW, how does it run? Well?
Many many thanks!
G.
Looks like it may be on Volume set #7.
Thanks for info.

How many days did you wait for an answer? I wrote them (both addresses) on
Thursday 21st, in the evening (about 8 p.m. GMT+1). So it's about five days
ago (counting Saturday and Sunday too). Let's wait till the end of the week?
Tnx, :-)

Gerry,
Did you have any luck with HP? If not, have a peek under RHESUS::[.MEDIALIB.IA64]...

Looking for that name with Google yields a link to a page of the HP DSPP
program about the 8.4 field test, in which they offer the opportunity to
become a field test site for the new OpenVMS version.
Sampsa, did you go through an formal request to HP or had some informal

Nothing. It just stops creating new files with that name. Why don't you test
this yourself? :-) Look:
ATHENA::RPT$ cre test.dat;32766
Exit
ATHENA::RPT$ cre test.dat !This will create ;32767
Exit
ATHENA::RPT$ cre test.dat !This will bomb
%CREATE-E-OPENOUT, error opening SYS_USERS:[RPT]TEST.DAT; as output
-RMS-E-CRE, ACP file create failed
-SYSTEM-W-BADFILEVER, bad file version number
ATHENA::RPT$
BTW, the maximum version number is 32767, so it is (2^15)-1.
Cheers,
G.
P.S.: help/mess badfilever yields also the following:
Explanation: The file version number in a file specification is greater
than 32767 or contains nonnumeric characters. Or, the file
system may have attempted to create a file with a version
higher than 32767 through defaulting rules.

Argh - they haven't put the right metadata in the PDFs and the filenames are like the part numbers of the item in the DocSet.
What a pain.

Thanks - just pulled them down and about to load them onto the DX.
I can highly recommend the device guys - it's expensive but absolutely brilliant for reading, just like a book.

Very intriguing. It would make support rather easy. ssh in, drop script in pre-defined directory, tell user to run it.

It takes a while to collect the information, but once its done, you'll be presented with the total number of files and the total blocks (actually used and also allocated).

OK, not getting much further, just configured a single (FreeNAS) iSCSI target in:
SYS$COMMON:[SYSMGR]ISCSI$ISN_SERVERS.DAT
Then ran the startup, to no avail:
{RHESUS$} @sys$startup:ISCSI$INITIATOR_STARTUP
%ISCSI-E-LOAD, Error loading iSCSI execlet (status = c)
Oh well, I guess it's not to be.
