I just checked, DUSTY:: is up and running! It is directly connected to

Use:
$ dir dusty::axpbinmar031:[000000]*.dir to see what is in the first

I have the CDs online now.
You can find them in these paths on DUSTY::
AXPBINMAR031:
AXPBINMAR032:
AXPBINMAR033:
AXPBINMAR034:
AXPBINMAR035:
AXPBINMAR036:
AXPBINMAR037:
AXPBINMAR038:
AXPBINMAR039:
Note that there is a [CDROM] directory that has CDMENU.EXE
that you can run on Alpha systems to see what's on the
different discs.
There are also:
AXPDOCMAR031:
AXPDOCMAR032:
AXPDOCMAR033:
which contain the documentation. These are Bookreader files
and should be usable on VAX or Alpha with the appropriate setup.

Sure. But a discreet http site which is not published will go under the radar.
Just my 2 cents

Okay, I'll do that then. I've copied the CDs to .iso

I will happily rip and host the CD images for HECnet

Thanks very much for the offer, Ian, but I've got a very decent

Marc,
We need to be careful about putting VMS kits in the public space.
It's one thing to make them available for HECnet users
within HECnet
but another to put them accessible to the whole world. HP might
(probably will), take a very dim view of this. Let's not temp fate
and give them ammunition to shutdown the program.

That's what I was thinking Sampsa. OTOH Steve is quite right that we shouldn't rock the boat too much.
Probably HP isn't interested in the media. But they are surely alerted if we'd trade licenses: which we don't (and never would).

shipping if required.
Thanks very much for the offer, Ian, but I've got a very decent Internet
connection here (all hail, Verizon FiOS :-) ), so once I resize my Linux
disk to hold these files, I'll be set.

Hello!
Marc for those of us who as yet do not have access via the networking
methods that you've worked out with the rest of the group, can you set
up access for normal methods? IE, via FTP or even HTTP?

My vote would be to put them online within HECnet.
I agree! Put the contents online (somehow) for us to view and use when possible.
Okay, I'll do that then. I've copied the CDs to .iso files and now need to get my Linux system to get a bit more room to hold them and then once that's reconfigured, I'll mount them on DUSTY:: (and send out a message when that's done to let everyone know where it is).
I will happily rip and host the CD images for HECnet member use - I run a data center, so I have plenty of bandwidth to spare. I'll even pay for shipping if required.

As others have mentioned, the Panda distribution uses KLH10 not simh.
It's supposed to come with a precompiled klh10 executable for Linux and
Intel. It also comes with a pre-installed, ready to boot, system image that
you can use after some minimal configuration, and there's README file that
describes how to boot and configure it. I've got to admit that it's been a
while since I tried it, but I don't remember any problems. What's the issue
you're having?
As for Linux DECnet, I'm afraid this has absolutely no connection. The
Linux DECnet package allows a Linux machine to speak DECnet natively (well,
more or less) so a Linux machine can participate as a node in a DECnet
network. This is independent of any simulations or simulated operating
systems. If you have a lot of DEC machines, it's very handy to be able
access your Linux machines with FAL/NFT, SET HOST, NCP/NML, etc.
Bob
With SIMH your best bet is TOPS-10. The Panda (MRC's updated TOPS-20) distribution requires KLH10 and I believe includes a slightly newer version than is otherwise available. I've never messed with the Panda distro, but have done my own installs.
I've never had DECnet running on TOPS-20, but did have it working on TOPS-10 7.04 thanks to a kit I got somewhere. I really liked the LAT support, since it allowed me to connect with a VT420. SIMH doesn't support Networking, but KLH10 does. My emulated TOPS-20 system was running TCP/IP, but I haven't had it online in years.

If so google for simh 's website. Bob Supnik provides detailed instructions on how to configure simh on linux as well as installation guides for several DEC operating systems. I tried and succeeded once to get TOPS-10 up and running, an os I am unfamiliar with.

I'm still awaiting clear and complete instructions on how to set-up the
Panda TOPS-20 distro on top of Linux, to even *become* a HECNET user.
Until such time as the DECNET community cares enough to document this,
I'm going to fail to particpate, and therefore give a damn.
If you need clear and complete instructions on how to do it, are you sure you want to do it? Having said that, there are links to most of the documentation I'm aware of at my PDP-10 emulation website.
http://www.aracnet.com/~healyzh/pdp10emu.html
I won't guarantee that all the links are current, it's been a long time since I updated that part of the site. I've started working on some updates, but to the best of my recollection no one has sent updates on the PDP-10 stuff.
Setting up KLH10 is a pretty basic compile, IIRC. The instructions with KLH10 should be enough to accomplish that. You might want to get on the alt.sys.pdp10 newsgroup, as that's a good place to ask questions.
Basically don't expect the "community" to do something for you, if you want something, take the time to research the available resources, and then ask questions in the appropriate places if you're stuck.

That came across as rather aggressive.
Care to explain what the DECnet community is, how they in any way are related to the setup of TOPS-20 on top of Linux (by which I actually assume we're talking of some PDP-10 emulator, upon which you then install the PANDA TOPS-20 distribution).
As for instructions on how to install the PANDA TOPS-20 dist on some kind of PDP-10 emulator, running on whatever, I'd suspect MRC would be the most logical person to ask.
As for how to install/setup some PDP-10 emulator, I guess it depends on the emulator.
As for how to get DECnet running under TOPS-20, that have just about no bearing on Linux whatsoever.
Sorry, I just felt your reply was a little bit non-sequiteur. :-)
Johnny
