Saw a used VT340 on on ebay for $200 just a few days ago.

Hello!
And what service are you (putting up with) working with, or
subscribing to? Mine is a DSL service provider named Megapath. And
that's more or less what the good people there told me.
Incidentally what I am getting is fairly close to business class for
them. For what they consider to be business class it gets bumped up to
something resembling the WAN or wide area networking experiments.
(Visit their site for clues and things.)

Hello!
I can see why. My (late) father was also a late attraction to the
Internet. He got online call it late in the period, whereas my brother
and I, had been making use of everything online even before the
Internet was officially available. In fact I had heard about, and
downloaded a copy of E11 from a now defunct service, who obtained a
gateway for itself fairly late. As to how the copy of E11 landed
there, I didn't know then, and I'm nowhere closer.
Incidentally dad would use the Internet to badger us via e-mail, and
to send me copies of Powerpoint animations that a fellow historical
plane fan would put together.
In fact he was quite pleased with what I had accomplished with
everything. My brother less so, and my (older) sister more so, my
(younger) sister not at all.
Peter I'm impressed.
Incidentally in this country the copper wire that holds the phone
connections together is seriously disintegrating and the phone
companies are doing even less then that to maintain them. They're
slowly moving towards fiber-optic stuff, and the cable TV ones don't
like that either.
In this country to have a static IP address over copper requires
practically new wiring from the Central Office to the Customer. And it
depends on the vendor.
That came up about two to three years ago here, perhaps as late as last year.

Hello!
Excellent write up. Right now (no pun included.) I'm still stepping
through the slightly tortuous steps of logic concerning what to run on
mine further along. I'm aiming towards a setup along the line of
yours.
And yes someone has emulated an I4381. I've also emulated a I370 model
168 on mine. (All of you probably know what hints I am getting at
there.)
When all of this goes live, I'll be delighted to report here regarding
what happened.
And of course Tony I'll change details accordingly so I don't crash
the network, since you did request that.

You're already in the database, I just have you disabled because you

Hi Peter,
I'm on the HECnet cisco mesh but have never had your tunnels come up. If you're interested in bringing your side up I can send you my IP and I'll reinstate your GRE tunnels.

A quick and dirty reply is : set WSEXTENT to 4 times the value of WSQUO and
see whether the uucp thing keeps running for a longer period of time.
In general I don't like WSEXTENT to be less than WSQUO and certainly not
less than WSDEF.

PS
I use the H8571-J to connect to serial ports on Windows (ducks) based pc's.
This works well for the AlphaServer 800 (MMJ console) as well as for the
AlphaServer 1200/1000 models with just two ports.
I have two old Compaq pc's that run XP with 3 or 4 two-port serial
interfaces.
I run PuTTY on them, one instance for each serial console, works like a
charm.

There are several connector models that fit a DE9.
The H8571-J works for me for all my Alpha's as well as VAXstation 4000
and VAX(station) 3100 models.
The H8571-J works in combination with the 25-pin H8571-E (male) and
H8571-A (female).
The H8575-B only works in pairs, not with any of the H8571-x models,
no idea how it is wired inside.

Mine too. But he was asking for a MMJ to DE9 adapter as well. And I was

I don't believe that the most common MMJ adapters are NOT PeeCee compatible.
I have and I have come across manymnay more that are PeeCee compatible that
those that are not. The original 9-pin pinout was abandoned pretty early on
in the MMJ adapter history. See the OpenVMS FAQ for actual part number for
these adapters.

Maybe I'm wrong. But I have a number of MMJ-DE9 adapters, received from multiple sources, but I do not have a single one which is PC compatible.

First of all, you are talking about a DE9, not a DB9 (surprising how
many don't know the correct name of that connector).
