I'd be really interested in knowning how to setup MR as an SMTP gateway for ALLIN1 - I tried this a while back with no success whatsoever. I didn't even think the licensing allowed it.
I simply followed the instructions in the Multinet install guide, which are very detailed. As for the licenses, I "inherited" the licenses my company used 20 years ago, at the same time I got the machines. I had to torture some of my colleagues to make them search in semi-forgoten file cabinets for the PAKs, but at the end I got them ;)

Answering myself,
MULTINET comes with a nice MR to SMTP gateway. Now I can address the internet from Allin as adress at in.the.internetz@SMTP and can address ALLIN1 from internet as jguillaumes at a1.jguillaumes.dyndns.org.
Firstly, nice to see other people who are at least on a par with me
madness wise (Sampsa has been my benchmark of sanity [or lack of it] for
a while)

Once upon a time when we where using DECnet we also did SMTP over DECnet,
PMDF supports this, Tops10 and Tops20. (Anyone who wanna do mail on T10, bug me
I have stuff for you...)

Good question! I just tried my PC keyboard from a PuTTY terminal. Some
of the functions map, others do not. It looks like it will depend on
what you are working with.
I use ZOC (http://www.emtec.com/zoc/) Its NOT free (it is shareware, and it costs 79 EUR, but I bought it loooooong ago and the upgrade price is reasonable). It provides not only a nice and usable VT220 experience, but also a built-in kermit client and a quite good 3270 emulation.

Related to using NOTES, before doing the discussion on NOTES,
for using the keypad, how do the present HECnet users use the
DEC keypad on non-DEC equipment?

Steve, can you please put everything on RHESUS::[.MEDIALIB.NOTES] maybe?
Thanks,

I tried two kits, and I have actually got it installed in another machine. I think the problem is the machine where it failed has both UCX and MULTINET installed (although UCX is not started). I'm cleaning it up and I'll try it again.
OTOH, how does one "join" a remote NOTES conference? Or is it necessary to actually log on the hosting system?
