Another sillyness. More information in the nodename database on MIM.

This is a totally volontary thing. I've finally come to the point where I think that there are a few more pieces of data on nodes that would be nice/useful to have from time to time. So I've extended the nodename database on MIM for this. The fields that I have added are CPU, OS and location. You can see an example of values by going to http://madame.update.uu.se/~bqt/hecnet?node=mim So, feel free to submit data to me for nodes you know. Or look up information. Or suggest interfaces that you'd like to get to extract this information, and I'll try and comply. :-) Johnny

HECnet LAT groups...

Hi. I'd like to ask people to look over their LAT setups. Looking at group 0 right now, the list is rather long, and containing lots of services that looks like they really would be better placed in some other group. The idea of group 0 has been to have publicly available systems in group 0, so that people using DECservers can just look at group 0, and whatever local groups they have, and not have a long list of services that are of no relevance at all to them. Phone company (US) and DEC hardware and the mainframe

I don't know anything about billing but the ESS and newer switches all had Datakit interfaces. Back in the mid-90s I supported systems that did traffic analysis of phone switches (mainly for capacity planning) via the Datakit network. The original systems were 3b2 boxes and the new replacement machines were SPARCstation 20 boxes. The products were COER [0] that ran on the 3b2 and TDMS [1] on the SS20. The source code to COER was missing which made dealing with bugs fun. I do know that it was extended to accommodate the needs of running the phone exchanges that the companies setup to use the ESS and its relatives. But wasn't there a story floating around that they had worked out how to have the phone companies systems to communicate the necessary billing specs to an ordinary IBM system, who'd eventually create the bills? (Or even had the same DEC hardware who ran the phone system, do the billing itself?) I hadn't got round to the change, but it is up now and I can see all GRE/IP tunnels 50-53 that are configured on my router. I can also ping 9.1. First things first, try resetting the box. If that doesn't work, also try resetting what's connected to it. Second thing is exactly what just what you've done, ask here. I'm connected to a couple people. I've already reset the cisco instance itself. ...and now it's working now that I've changed the endpoint for my IPv6 tunnel.
