Well, I already announced RPM before, so it's not really an announcement
in that sense. However, I have been doing a lot of improvements,
cleanup, and some documentation, to make it easier for people in the
future. Some people might already have picked this up in the process of
just staying updated, but for future reference, new users, and whatnot,
I figured I should redo the announcement.
So, for anyone running RSX-11M-PLUS (or MicroRSX) on their PDP-11 (and
preferrably V4.6, but I think it will for the most part work equally
fine with anything V4), RPM is a package manager that allows you to
install and update lots of software on your system with a minimal amount
of manual effort.
The list of available packages is constantly increasing, and there is a
web-page that describes the system in a little more detail, including
how to bootstrap the whole thing.
So, for anyone interested, please read http://mim.update.uu.se/rpm.htm,
and if you have any questions, just reach out to me.

I realise this isn't strictly related to hecnet but...
I had a look around the SIMH repo at what looked like the beginnings of the Alpha simulator, particularly the CPU, including the PAL-code emulation for VMS. Relative to the VAX and PDP-11 simulators for example, it looks like there's a lot of work remaining however.
Has it stalled due to lack of time, interest, knowledge.... or is there some 'engineering' issue with its implementation in SIMH that is presenting a hurdle too high currently to pass?

I have a software product for APC UPSs that understands APC's so-called Smart
protocol. It will work for any of the SmartUPS with a serial connector. The
APC also had a mode where one of the serial signals would drop (essentially,
DTR) when the UPS went on battery. Any UPS doing that signaling can easily
be used to shutdown a VMS system using a $QIO monitoring the associated port
on the system.

I speak to machines with the voice of humanity.
As some of you may have just heard, LCM+L are suspending operations "for now" due to the effects of the current crisis. We'll discover what'll be happening to online access to their systems shortly. It's a sad day but hopefully not permanently so.
