Oh, and...Autumn and I just landed in PA from our last truck trip from
FL. I hope to get caught up on everything soon, and your care package
is near the top of the list. One of the little Sun systems that I had
earmarked for you was actually in that load.
Do you have the ability to install Solaris (or NetBSD, that also runs
nice on 64-bit SPARC systems) on your end? I'm sorry to ask, but I
honestly don't know your level of expertise in that area.

I have one of those, and I'll be hanging on to it. (sorry) I can
point the yetis to someplace that might have a few, though. ;)

Hi,
I have tried all baud rates on the 1st Port. There is nothing on power
on or if reset. Holding down the reset button whilst powering on
doesn't change anything. I also tried shorting the pins in case the
switch was broken.
Although the network activity light flashes when I plug a network
adapter into it, it doesn't seem to try and load anything. I have 4
machines with the software on and also tried it from a Linux machine.
There is a short diagnostic manual online
http://deathrow.vistech.net/~cvisors/DEC94MDS/dsrvbf01.txt. This says
that if LED 2 is not lit up then it has a serious error and has failed
self test. It says to refer to the technical manual if it doesn't
light up, which I cannot find online.
I used to have one of these before, which I gave away. This just
worked, one of my machines is still setup from these days to mop boot
it.

Hi,
So I bought it, as Mark had found another one. Only thing is it
doesn't seem to be working.
Anyone got any experience with these. I have found a few manuals
online but they all refer to a Technical Manual which I can't find
anywhere.
It starts up with just the Power light on, the 2nd Light does not come
on, which is supposed to indicate self test is OK. The network light
flashes with network activity.
I have a had a cursory glance inside. Everything is connected, nothing
blown up or melted.
There is nothing at all on the 1st serial port. I've tried resetting
to defaults with the reset button and nothing. The guy I got it from
said it was working when powered down.
Anyone got any clues ?
Blimey, there hasn't been much luck with DECservers lately!!!
I have 900 but that's serious overkill for most people.
Good luck!
Mark.
Sorry Dan, can't help you with that.

The speed was 4800 bps. Power on with the red button pressed and the unit returns to factory settings.

Anything on the first serial port? It has been awhile, but I seem to
recall it prints out some messages there on (or just after) startup.
If you have a terminal attached to port 1, and have it set to ignore the
modem signals, and the correct speed (probably 1200 bps, but I might be
wrong), it will print out some informational messages during self test
and as it tries to boot.
To actually have it boot you need a MOP server on the network, and the
right image. PR0801ENG.SYS, if I remember right...
If you are on HECnet, and the MOP protocol is enabled (for both sides),
MIM will serve the boot image for you.
