OK,
I know I'm not really answering your question but have you tried installing it through an rpm?
I found one here: http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/17350842/dir/fedora_16/com/simh…

It runs the bridge program and I want to run simh on this box since it is cheap on mains power. Its battery is shot which is why my ex gave it to me.
I have libpcap installed and used 'make USE_NETWORK'=1' to build simh.
Which fails because it cannot locate
/usr/local/llib/libpcap.a
There is a libpcap.so, in /usr/lib
Am I running an old version of linux, or made an error installing libcap?

SG1:: and the Multinet Tunnel have returned to the Eastern US Hub. For
those who need it, resolve bridge.declab.net for the address.
Restoration of the bridge connection is in progress...

Hi Guys,
That's my bad - the AlphaServer 1000A that runs hecnet.eu is currently
switched off but will be back up next week. I had previously implemented
a squid cache on a box that is always up 24/7 but an ubuntu upgrade and
not enough time mean that's not currently working - I'll take another
look when I get a chance.
Mark, what kind of content is there on hecnet.eu? I've started to get my web server for RSX running... ;-)

I know you are in the Netherlands (I'm in the US), but I'd *love* to have a free source for a DS[1-2]0. :) My normal sources for DEC hardware seem to have hit what is hopefully a temporary dry spell.

Lets call it for what it is - "legacy" is a term that people use in a
polite but derogatory manner to imply that the future direction they
prefer is not that which they view as the current direction.
They've discontinued the freeware ES40 emulator, so their 128 MB max memory thing is the only thing for free for now.
I'm waiting to hear back re: pricing from the Avanti people, let's see how low they can go..

Thanks. That's what I'd seen. The other probable show stopper for me is that it only runs under Windows. If I bought the emulator, then I'd have to also buy a Windows license to run it. :( But nobody seems to have a working Alpha emulator that runs under Linux. At least one without limitations that are annoying. The CHARON -AXP/ES40 for Linux NCE needs to be manually re-started every 30 days and it only allows 2 emulated scsi disks. I'm not even sure it's current. The documentation page says the binary expires on 12-31-2010 so apparently hasn't been updated in a while.
I'll still prob go for it - I've got a Win7 box doing nothing so I'll maybe move CHIMPY onto it..I think it might be as fast or even faster than the DS10, but we'll see. If not, I'll run it as an extra host, maybe cluster the two.
Whoa! new surprise. I logged into the Stromasys site to look at the downloads and the ES40 emulator has been retired! No longer available. You have your choice of a MicroVAX 3600/3900, DEC3000-400, AlphaServer 400 or AlphaServer DS10. The DS10 is Windows 64-bit XP/7 only. The DEC3000-400 is Windows 32-bit XP only. MicroVAX is Windows 32-bit, Linux 32-bit and ESXi (VMWare) and the AS400 is Windows 64-bit, Linux 64-bit and ESXi. What a motley assortment of supported hosts - none of which are what I'm looking for. :(
Yeah, that kinda sucks. I wrote them and asked about the ES40 NCE, let's see what they say.

I looked on the Migration Specialties web site and found FreeAXP and Avanti but no mention of a DS10 emulation. Can you be more specific on where you found this? Both the FreeAXP and Avanti emulators are EV4 (AlphaServer 400) emulation. Maybe in this case the chip version doesn't really matter but it would be nice to have something a little more modern.
For a DS10 class emulator with up to 3GB of memory and lots of disk space I'd go up to $100 US. Otherwise I'm just as happy to run my DS20E or XP1000.

Guys,
I've just been talking to the guys who make the FreeAXP product about possible hobbyist pricing for their DS10 and other commercial products - they seemed to like what we're doing with HECnet and asked what I thought was a fair price for a DS10 emulator, so I figured I'd ask here.
Basically, I think we can get a better deal if a bunch of us buy a copy. Their list price for the DS10 version is USD 6,000 which of course is crazy as we can get a lot of hardware for that kind of money.
So I guess my questions are these:
1. How many of you are interested in a commercial Alpha emulator at hobbyist pricing?
2. What are we willing to pay for say an emulated DS10?
