Hi,
I wondered if anyone has a spare 3w3 to 3xBNC (RGB) cable. It appears after a multimeter test that the green wire in mine has broken, the cable insulation has split behind the 3w3 connector so I think the cable has been pulled on and broken.
Thanks,

I may have one, I'll have a look over the weekend.
How are your soldering skills though. There are some VGA-->BNC cables on ebay, I got one last week for 6. You could cut the vga connector off and solder to a 3w3 plug. You should be able to get one through RS or Farnell cheaply

Thanks,
Mark - there is currently one on eBay unless it's been snapped up.
I can see 3 - all in the USA.

Thankfully, we'd /probably/ be using something a wee bit faster than a 64K
leased line. ;)
As far as I recall, DEC originally required that a network interconnect cluster
required 10MB/s connections. I think they also said that all the nodes had to
be on the same ethernet segment with no repeaters or bridges intervening! Maybe
that was just a way of being able to blame the networking equipment if there
were clustering problems when the customers invariably ignored the rules...
I suspect usable clustering would probably need a couple of MB/s of stable, low
latency networking between the cluster nodes in both directions. In most
realistic cases, something would be needed at each end to encapsulate the
cluster traffic for transport over IP.
Clustering over slow or unreliable links is not pretty or fun. The results are
generally poor performance, with hangs, timeouts and machines falling over,
with all cluster nodes affected, not just the ones on the wrong side of the
link. VMS does clusterwide locking on almost all shared resources. If a node
can't reliably make contact with other nodes in the cluster, things start to
fall apart very quickly. Unlike DECnet, clustering is not designed to gracefully
cope with network problems.
Regards,
Peter Coghlan.

Thanks a lot! :) I'm happy I will not lose the connectivity once my IP goes dynamic...
On the other hand, I'm thinking about writing a wrapper over Johnny's bridge program to support dynamic addresses. The program would build a bridge config file from its own list of hostnames and would launch the bridge using that config file. Then it would check the DNS translation periodically (each 5 minutes would be fine for a "hobbyist" network) and, in case it finds any change, it would make a new config, kill the bridge and start it up again with the new config.
FYI - for the bridge, if you have a DNS name in the config file, and the DNS entry is changed, just sending a SIGHUP to the bridge will force it to re-resolve the name. No need to stop and restart.
(A really stupid, simplistic solution in other words would be to just send a SIGHUP once an hour or so to the bridge. and it would be up most of the time, while still also handling if your IP address change.)

Uh. Hi, Sampsa. I already have SIIRI at 47.1113. Is that
wrong? Let me know if I should change it.

Yes, I was being an idiot, 1113 isn't a legal address, so let's set it to 47.113.
Doh! I didn't even think that far... :-)
Fixing now.
