last time I checked the code, I don't think it was using blocking sockets, so it would 'hang' from time to time processing data if there was nothing to read.......
Sampsa noted a marked difference in speed. The straight ftp session ran at
100 kb/s while the HECnet/DECnet connection was five times slower.
My internet connection is based on adsl+. My download speed is about 12 Mb/s
but the uplink (as seen from where I sit) is only 750 kb/s (kb/s is kilobit
per second). So 100 kb/s is pretty slow even for this connection.

You do not need high performance hardware to run the bridge. I've done it
with
a Pentium-166 running NetBSD. The performance issues come from the WAN
bandwidth, or lack thereof... :-)

runs on a 450 MHz Pentium II machine with 256 MB memory... Not exactly hi

FTSO is also very useful and efficient. It can talk to a FTP server.
It can continue even if the transfer is interrupted from where it was when the interruption happened.
Really recommended!
I use it for getting VMS patch kits and other big kits.
