Once upon a time there seems to have been a company called KI Research
at Columbia, Maryland. Circa 1994 they had for sale something called
KINET DNA which apparently was a user-mode DECnet stack available for
numerous Unix flavors and OS/2 (maybe more operating systems). I came
across the name looking for a DECnet implementation for HP-UX.
Here's one of the threads from 1993 (!) that I am looking at:

Does anyone here have pointers to some archive which might have
distributions of KINET?

? Can't help much, other than to say that, for my sins, I once had to
system manage an IBM AIX system that a rogue engineering department
bought without IT approval. To make it remotely useful in the corporate
all DEC environment, I ordered Ki DECnet for it. It worked pretty well.
It was still AIX, though....

Well damn, I was just a few miles from there at that time, though I'd
never heard of that company or its products. I will ask around to the
old crowd around there; someone might have known someone. All of us
DC-area tech folk regularly drank/hung out with/slept with/etc other
DC-area tech folk. ;)

I tried looking around some time ago, even spending a bunch of time
trawling through archive.org. However, it was to no avail.
I communicated with someone at KI in about 2001-2003, I cannot
remember their name and I would have to fire up another system to go
through my mail from that time (although I can if you would like). I was
trying to get access to the Linux version of their software. They spoke to
me about releasing the source code. I did try to reach them again, but
again to no avail.

I found the name "Dan Wat", he mentions "One method would use the DECnet
software which our company supplies as,part of our kiNET software
[DECnet, LAT, MOP protocol support] which is,available for most UNIX
platforms."

I wonder if one of those might be CP/M. This weekend I'm going to be building an IMSAI
8080 replica from a kit.
I imagine KiNET uses Ethernet adaptors though but I wonder if there's any DDCMP
capability.
